Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was a well-known Austrian painter, designer and artist who lived mainly in Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He was involved in the decoration of the art-historical museum in Vienna, followed by other commissions. Four allegories on the ceiling of the Sturany Palace in Vienna, decoration of the ceiling of the spa house in Karlovy Vary, decoration of the Villa Hermes - the country residence of Empress Elisabeth. Freud's doctrine of the unconscious and human sexuality, which also appeared in many of his works, was growing in strength at this time. The paintings are full of expressive lines, flowing hair, flowers, geometric patterns and mythical themes.
